Today debriefing focuses on the lesson we had in class about microblogging via twitter! In our assignment we were given 3 questions to choose from and to write a blog post about it. I chose the third question:
“If you already have a Twitter account, discuss your experiences with it. Do you use it often? Do you use it to connect with friends or groups and organizations? What do you like and dislike about Twitter?”
Alrighty, lets get started! I’m going to break down the question so it makes it easier for you to read and for me to write.
If you already have a Twitter account, discuss your experiences with it. I have had a twitter account for a number of years, well two actually. At first, when I was twitter naiive, I didn’t realize that you could change the @___ bit so I deleted the entire account…and restarted.
Do you use it often? I use my twitter account very often and many times a day at all times. I will tweet about everything and anything…to an extent. I mean obviously there are just something you don’t put up on the internet. Sometimes I will post silly pictures that I have found on different sites or post quotes that I found moving or stupid or humorous. I am also notorious for linking my instagram account to my twitter account sometimes but in all honesty I’d rather just post the picture a second time on twitter without the fuss.
Do you use it to connect with friends or groups and organizations? I do follow quite a number of people and organizations. If you want an approximate number I probably follow roughly 200 people and/or organizations.
Out of my friends I know I only follow two of them who are actually on twitter often (I even have notifications set so when they tweet I’m ready.) When we tweet usually we have some sort of conversation whether it has to do with school, or some sports event that we both have a mutual interest in. My one friend doesn’t like sports, well except Spain in World Cup/FIFA, so we discuss books or we send each other links and pictures that we have found to each other.
**When I start snorting in class, usually its because I’ve logged onto my twitter and found something ridiculous that my friend tweeted me or instant messaged me**
Besides them I follow various people on twitter who have to do with my interests. I follow an awesome lady in the Netherlands who just started her first semester as a highschool english teacher and her tweets are awesome! I followed her originally because she writes and I love writing. Through her I followed some other people but soon un-followed because of various reasons.
Regarding organizations I follow many different organizations and famous people such as the official geocaching feed, some libraries, popular music groups and artists, published authors that I absolutely adore and a couple authors from various websites such as Wattpad. I also follow various CBC.ca feeds; including The Strombo Show, George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight and CBC Books.
What do you like and dislike about Twitter?
If I had to address just one thing that I dislike about twitter my biggest munchkin pet peeve is that when I come across someone who is being super negative about a band I enjoy and they are literally spamming them and clawing at other people’s twitterthroats I wish either one of these two things:
- There was some kind of button that you can push that sends them a message saying that they are being idiotic and would they stop please?
(For now I suppose the block button will have to do even though it is not as fun)
- Reporting this kind of behavior on twitter is easier. The few times I have had to do this resulted in my IpodTouch flying across the room, nearly hitting my friend a couple times, because of all the forms that you have to fill out and such. IN OTHER WORDS trying to stop people from spamming twitter is hard. I don’t like it. I just want to be able stop the spam.
On the other hand…shouldn’t twitter be able to stop it? Or have some kind of moderation plan?
What I love about twitter…Oh lordy.
First thing I probably love about it is that I am able to follow, in real time, people who are deemed to be “unreachable” such as movie stars, authors, and people who you see on the T.V.
Second thing I love is that I am actually able to interact with those “unreachable” people through just sending a tweet. Sometimes you get a response, which sends an erruption of glee through the system, but generally you will not. Which is fine. Its my opinion that every tweet is seen by the person who you sent it to.
Third thing I love is that I get to “meet” new people who have common interests. Its always a blast when you get a tweet from them saying, “Whasss up?”
As a side note, at this time I will not be adding my twitter account to my blog. Though if I find any interesting articles via twitter and feel the need to comment on them with more than the prescribed dosage of words twitter gives…you may see them pop up on here. If in the future I find that maybe adding my twitter account here is a good thing…then I will, but for now it will not be. Thank you. If you wish to follow me or for me to follow you umm..comment. Or just follow A Munchkin’s Word World!
